The Pretenders live at The Santa Barbara Bowl
August 11, 2007 |
Friday night Santa Barbara was graced by the lively and forever young Crissy Hinds and her Pretenders. The energy was electric and following a stellar set by The Stray Cats. I have heard the The Pretenders put on great shows and have always loved their tunes. Its amazing to me that a band like The Pretenders with so many hits is seldom mentioned on peoples Best Of.
The “hot” factor of Crissy Hinds was evident as women seemed more inclined to shout out “your so friggin hot! Crissy” than men. There are some women who seem to be OK for girls to like: Crissy Hinds, Ellen Degeneras are a few and as I watched the crowd go nuts for Hinds it struck me how many hetero women (including my own) were oooing and awwwing over the leggy and sassy Hinds.
The band ripped through a series of their hits. Hinds was clearly at ease and is a very talkative and funny woman. Her band was more than competent, The guitar work was flawless and energetic. The tone was raw and pointed. Clearly enjoying her status as the reigning Queen of Rock Hinds was energetic, funny and right on the mark. The band ripped and the crowd roared.
With no particular highlight the show wrapped up right on curfew as Hinds declared “what else is there to play?”. Thank Crissy, you rock.
