Bandsintown.com
June 27, 2007 |
A new site called Bandsintown.com has launched in the last few weeks. The site keeps you up to date on when, where and who of your favorite bands (and related artists) are playing in a town near you. A very simple idea that appears to have been done very well and in a super duper Web 2.0 shiny vector way. From my few minutes of playing around with Bandsintown.com I was able to set up a profile, create a list of a few of my favorite bands and quickly see who was one their way to LA. I think that this is a great site but I am not really sure how it can be a standalone. The problems in the space are that the entire concert world is controlled by the monopolies Clear Channel and Ticketmaster. I am assuming that these guys are pulling their tour info from Pollstar but what about the smaller acts in the smaller venues? Where do they/will they get it? Are they going to accept local artists uploads and user based information? I am sure they will after all its WEB 2.0 and everyone’s doing it.
